The President's Cup

Due to changes in the ranges available to us, this competition has been amended to suit. After the first of the new style of competition (2022), the current trophy holder may not compete.

There are two elements to the competition, (A) .22 rifle, and (B) muzzle-loading pistol/revolver. The total score of both practices to be added together to get a final total.

Practice A

1) Any .22 rifle over 100 years old, no scopes allowed. Slings may be used, but bipods, sandbags and other fixed rests are not permitted.

2) Two rounds at each of the aiming marks on the five bull target provided.

3) Scoring, touch the line to count, 10/1 for a V-bull otherwise 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5. Should there be more than two hits in a group then the lowest scoring hit is to be discounted.

4) No malfunction allowance.

5) Detail to last no longer than twenty-five minutes, less if all competitors have finished shooting.

Practice B

1) Any muzzle loading pistol or revolver, any sighting system. Hand-held only, no form of rest or brace is permitted.

2) Six rounds at the "Frenchman" target provided.

3) Scoring, touch the line to count. Twenty points for a hit on the "Frenchman".

4) No malfunction allowance.

5) Detail to last no longer than twenty-five minutes, less if all competitors have finished shooting.

In the event of a score tie, the number of V-bull and cross-strap plate hits to count. If the contestant's scores are still equal, a further six rounds are to be shot with any muzzle loading pistol or revolver at a "Frenchman" target. The judge's decision is final.

AWARD OF THE PRESIDENT'S CUP

The winner of the competition will be awarded the President's Cup to be held for the year. The annually-issued club NRA "Donegal" Medal will be awarded as a permanent keepsake within the spirit of that medal, which is:- 'That the Medal can only be issued to a person who does not already hold such an award and that the Medal must be won in a competition.'
