About the Club

The FCMLS was formed in 1972 by a group of shooting enthusiasts with the intention of preserving and shooting black powder firearms of all types. This philosophy has continued throughout the years, with every member being required to own at least one bona fide black powder weapon. However, many of our members also enjoy shooting a variety of original and replica firearms spanning all eras - from matchlocks and flintlocks, right through to the latest high-tech rifles.

Although the Club has never owned its own range, we have always been fortunate enough to have access to suitable facilities.

We are currently utilising the indoor ranges of Blackpool Rifle & Pistol Club, and the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association (RFCA) ranges at Altcar Camp, Hightown.

The Club is, of course, affiliated to the NRA (the governing body for shooting sports in the UK), and also to the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain (MLAGB).

The Annual General Meeting at the first shoot in June each year. Additional meetings may be called if necessary.

The Club holds a number of competitions during the year for different classes of firearm - musket, military and target muzzle loading rifles, and pistol - for which trophies and medals are awarded. There is also a 'Fun Shoot' held shortly before Christmas each year, which has always proved to be a popular event, even though no prizes are up for grabs.
